Hi-Lake Initiatives

Living three blocks from Police Precinct 3 in Minneapolis, Norah's neighborhood was decimated by the riots following George Floyd's murder. In response, Norah launched Hi-Lake Initiatives to help rebuild the community's spirits, businesses, and connections. Here are some of those stories.

Paint our Peace

#PaintourPeace facilitated community paints on plywood covering neighborhood businesses, providing supplies and space for every passerby to add their visual voice. 800+ neighbors from preschool to community elders created 5000SF of art in 5 written languages. See pictures of the art and artists on Facebook at Paint our Peace, and support the community through for-sale products! Proceeds from face mask and notecard sales roll back into community service projects.

Common Table South

#CommonTableSouth brings revenue to neighborhood businesses, food to neighbors, and increased connection to neighborhoods via donation-funded, festive, pay-as-able outdoor lunches. In its first 25 events, CTS served over 2,700 meals and drove $27K of revenue to small businesses, financed by the generosity of both attendees and outside contributors.  See info on upcoming events visit FB@ Common Table South, and purchase pay-it-forward meals for struggling community members right here in the website store!
