A Note from Norah

Picture
In-person is back. How does it feel? Thrilling? Unnerving? The pandemic has done both a lot of damage and a great service to the performing arts. We have lost performances, income streams, companies, and (most sadly) artists. At the same time, online performing arts opportunities have exploded. As we make our way back to crowded concert halls and jockeying between knees and seats to find our places before the lights go down, many now-reopened arts venues continue to remain vital online. I'm grateful for our arts community's good-humored resilience and tenacity. Here's to a healthier, even more creative and curious future for the arts.  May you and your community also be healthy, creative and curious as we continue to navigate together.

We sing when our hearts are too full for speech.

"Transparency and integrity are core values in my life and work. On stage, no matter the genre, I strive for a sense of holistic integrity, and I burrow deep to ground each performance choice in reality and honesty. As a singer-actor, I strive tenaciously for a seamlessly-integrated performance, one in which you will know that, when that character sings, it is because their emotions have outgrown spoken word, and when they dance, it is because no movement less expressive will do."
With over 100 leading roles under her belt, Minneapolis-based Norah Long has built an award-winning performance career spanning genres of classical and contemporary drama, musical theater, opera, film, and concert stage. Norah also works as a stage director, music director, teacher, and composer. For more, visit her Biography page.

Hi-Lake Initiatives: A Retrospective

Paint our Peace

#PaintourPeace facilitated community paints on plywood covering the windows of neighborhood businesses, providing supplies and space for every passerby to add their visual voice. 800+ neighbors from preschool to community elders created 5000SF of art in 5 written languages on the boards of a dozen businesses during May-June. See more pictures of the art and artists on Facebook at Paint our Peace.

Common Table South

#CommonTableSouth brought revenue to neighborhood businesses, food to neighbors, and increased connection to the neighborhood via donation-funded, festive, pay-as-able outdoor lunches. In 25 events, CTS served  2,700+ meals and drove $27K of revenue to primarily BIPOC owned and run small food businesses, funded by attendees and sponsors. For photos visit FB@ Common Table South.

TedX Youth Minnetonka

Norah had the privilege of being the closing speaker for a TEDX Youth conference held in Minnetonka MN in 2020, speaking about Hi-Lake Initiatives and her "Year of the Proactive Yes." View that presentation here.

 Pandemic Hymn Sing

#PandemicHymnSing was a series of social media posts of hymns and favorite songs recorded in Norah's home and themed toward comfort, joy, hope, social justice and unity. Find archives on her Instagram and Facebook pages.
